Is It Histamine?

My husband Jo has ADHD. But some of what he lives with never quite fit that diagnosis, brain fog that comes and goes, a beer that floors him but tequila that doesn't, congestion that never clears.

So we ran an experiment. For four to six weeks, Jo cut out high-histamine foods completely, then reintroduced them slowly to see what happened. Histamine is a chemical your body makes constantly, and for some people it builds up faster than the body can clear it, causing symptoms that can look a lot like ADHD, or period problems, or both.

We documented the whole thing, live, as it happened.

This guide is everything we learned, written down.

This guide isn't a cure, there isn't one. It's a way to find out whether histamine is part of your story, and some real, doable things to do about it if it is.

The main tool inside is a food experiment that lasts four to six weeks. Not forever. Then you go back to eating (almost) everything, on purpose, and see what happens.

If it helps, you'll know something real about yourself. If it doesn't, that's useful too, one less thing to wonder about.

What's inside:

  • What histamine actually is, and why it can look like ADHD, or period chaos, or both

  • A quick checklist to see if the pattern fits you

  • The exact diet Jo ran, slip-ups included, not just the wins

  • Everything that isn't food, sleep, stress, gut health

  • The short supplement list, and the ones not worth your money

  • Mic's story too, cyclical migraines, endometriosis, and perimenopause

  • What it means either way, if the diet helps, and if it doesn't
